AN EXPENSIVE PENNY!!!

THIS LITTLE GIRL ........
SWALLOWED THIS LITTLE PENNY.....

THE STORY....
Last Tuesday evening I came out of our bedroom and found Kyann sitting on the living room floor kind of coughing/choking so I quickly checked her mouth and there was nothing in it and then she just started laughing and acting silly so I never gave it another thought...until on Wednesday. My mom was watching her and when i went to pick her up she told me that when she fed Kyann lunch she eat several bites and then mom said she only had her mouth about half open so she gave her another bite and then Kyann started gagging and threw up everything she eat. Well I still didn't give it too much thought. Then that night at supper she took a few bites and gagged ang threw up. On Thursday morning she did eat a soft egg and kept it down but Thurs. lunch it was the same gagging/throwing up again. I had a docter's appt. for her on Thurs. afternoon anyway so I told the Dr. ( not our regular Dr. He was called to the hospital on an emergency right when we got there for our appt.) her symtoms and the Dr. said she could be either dehdyrated or have urinary tract infection...they took a urine sample ( and YES they had to cath her...poor girl:( ) Anyway they both came back fine. So i asked if would be possible that she would have swallowed something and that it could be lodged inher throat. The Dr. said that was very unlikely and that she probably just wasn't very hungry. I tried to explain that she was eating just not able to keep it down but I don't think I was being heard! Sooo we came back home and I told myself that i was probaly just being an overprotective mommy! She cont. to not be able to keep any solids down (she took her bottles just fine). I just kept having this nagging feeling and I kept going back to Tues. evening when I found her choking. On Friday night a friend told me that when her brother was a baby he swallowed a penny and it was lodged in his throat for a month before they found it! Then she said the docters told them that if the penny would have dislodged it could have shut off his airways and he probably wouldn't have made it! Very encouraging!! This mommy's overprotectiveness kicked in high gear. I didn't sleep very well Friday night to say the least. On Sat. morning I called my friend, who works on the OB floor, and asked her if she knew which Dr. was on call. She found out for me and gave me the hospital number so i could have him paged. I didn't have to have him paged b/c he answered the phone on the ped. floor. I am told that never happens!! i told him what was going on and he said to bring her to the office and he would come over and take a look at her. We went to the office adn he checked her throat and ear really good and found nothing besides that her throat looked a little red and irriated but nothing that would cause her to not be able to keep solids down. He also thought it was very unlikely that she could have anything lodged but wanted to do an x-ray just to be sure. We went to the hospital and they took an x-ray....the Dr. called me after he read it...she def. had swallowed something...A PENNY... but it was not lodged. It was already in her lower adomen. He said probably the reason for not being able to keep anything down was b/c the penny was trying to get through her system and also b/c her throat and esophagus sp?? was irrated from the penny. He also said that he felt like she was past any danger and that would pass it in a day or two. She passed it on Tuesday a whole week after she swallowed it!! I relaxed after that! Now we try to keep everything picked up off the floor....especially pennies!!:)......END OF STORY!!!
