AN EXPENSIVE PENNY!!!

THIS LITTLE GIRL ........
SWALLOWED THIS LITTLE PENNY.....

THE STORY....
Last Tuesday evening I came out of our bedroom and found Kyann sitting on the living room floor kind of coughing/choking so I quickly checked her mouth and there was nothing in it and then she just started laughing and acting silly so I never gave it another thought...until on Wednesday. My mom was watching her and when i went to pick her up she told me that when she fed Kyann lunch she eat several bites and then mom said she only had her mouth about half open so she gave her another bite and then Kyann started gagging and threw up everything she eat. Well I still didn't give it too much thought. Then that night at supper she took a few bites and gagged ang threw up. On Thursday morning she did eat a soft egg and kept it down but Thurs. lunch it was the same gagging/throwing up again. I had a docter's appt. for her on Thurs. afternoon anyway so I told the Dr. ( not our regular Dr. He was called to the hospital on an emergency right when we got there for our appt.) her symtoms and the Dr. said she could be either dehdyrated or have urinary tract infection...they took a urine sample ( and YES they had to cath her...poor girl:( ) Anyway they both came back fine. So i asked if would be possible that she would have swallowed something and that it could be lodged inher throat. The Dr. said that was very unlikely and that she probably just wasn't very hungry. I tried to explain that she was eating just not able to keep it down but I don't think I was being heard! Sooo we came back home and I told myself that i was probaly just being an overprotective mommy! She cont. to not be able to keep any solids down (she took her bottles just fine). I just kept having this nagging feeling and I kept going back to Tues. evening when I found her choking. On Friday night a friend told me that when her brother was a baby he swallowed a penny and it was lodged in his throat for a month before they found it! Then she said the docters told them that if the penny would have dislodged it could have shut off his airways and he probably wouldn't have made it! Very encouraging!! This mommy's overprotectiveness kicked in high gear. I didn't sleep very well Friday night to say the least. On Sat. morning I called my friend, who works on the OB floor, and asked her if she knew which Dr. was on call. She found out for me and gave me the hospital number so i could have him paged. I didn't have to have him paged b/c he answered the phone on the ped. floor. I am told that never happens!! i told him what was going on and he said to bring her to the office and he would come over and take a look at her. We went to the office adn he checked her throat and ear really good and found nothing besides that her throat looked a little red and irriated but nothing that would cause her to not be able to keep solids down. He also thought it was very unlikely that she could have anything lodged but wanted to do an x-ray just to be sure. We went to the hospital and they took an x-ray....the Dr. called me after he read it...she def. had swallowed something...A PENNY... but it was not lodged. It was already in her lower adomen. He said probably the reason for not being able to keep anything down was b/c the penny was trying to get through her system and also b/c her throat and esophagus sp?? was irrated from the penny. He also said that he felt like she was past any danger and that would pass it in a day or two. She passed it on Tuesday a whole week after she swallowed it!! I relaxed after that! Now we try to keep everything picked up off the floor....especially pennies!!:)......END OF STORY!!!

Summer Thus Far

Okay this post is going to be a little long!! Since I've just started this blog I thought I would make a little run down of what has happened already this summer!! Hang in there!!:)

The kids have been using the place where our pool is going to be for their ball field! They have spent hours out there taking turns pitching and batting. There is usually some argument about how many strikes, balls, and if they are "out" or "safe", but for the most part have had lots of fun! The night before we started on the pool they wanted to have one last "ballgame"!

Kyann decided to wear a helmet just to be safe!

Calvin headed for home...i think kendrick got him out or at least slowed him down!:)

NINE KIDS AND THREE MOMS!!!
We went to the Washington Park and then to McDonalds with Darla, Erin, Kylie, & Blake and Kim, Issac, Olivia, & Elizabeth. Kaitlyn & Erin are good friends from school. Kendrick & Isaac are going to be in Kindergarten together this fall. They met at Kindergarten round-up and have been buddies ever since! We wanted to get them all together over the summer. We went on a VERY hot day. It was even hot at mcDonalds but I think everyone had a good time anyway!

All the kid's at McDonalds!

Kyann was not a happy camper!

Kaitlyn and Kendrick both played ball in the Frank Roberts Youth League in Odon. Kaitlyn played 10 & under girls softball. Kendrick played T-ball. The first day of the season is called "opening day". There is a parade and each team rides on a float. The kids throw candy to their parents! Then after the parade is over everyone gets to play about 3 innings in a practice game. It's lots of fun and a great way to start the season!!

Getting ready to go.

Kaitlyn was at a different place waiting for the parade to start so i didn't get any pictures of her except for the one when she was going through the parade!:(

All of the T-ball players got a trophy. Kendrick was very proud of his. He held it all the way home from Odon the night that he got it!

Kaitlyn's team got 2 trophys. One for coming in second place in the league and one for coming in first place in the playoffs. She was very excited to get TWO trophys!!

I thought this was so adorable! Kendall is sharing his ring pop with Kyann during one of Kendrick's games!

SO ADORABLE!!

Kendrick taking in all the action. He really took an interest in Kaitlyn's games this year. He sat in her dug out almost every game and learned all their chants and chatter. One night on the way home he asked why his T-ball team doesn't sing like Kaitlyn's team does!:)

We found these wild baby rabbits in the landscaping while pulling weeds this spring. Of course the kids wanted to keep them! So we put them in a box with some grass and weeds and fed them with a medicine dropper. Kaitlyn did real good helping me feed them at first, but soon lost interest. Kendrick never did get the hang of it. So you can guess who got stuck feeding them...MOM!! Of course, being a mother, I wasn't going to put them back outside and let them starve! So I faithfully fed them twice a day for about three weeks then one morning I went out in the garage and found that the bunnies had clipped two flowers, that I hadn't got planted yet, completely off!! I told Kaitlyn & Kendrick that I was sure the bunnies would do fine out in wild!:)
We waited until dark the next night to let them go. Kaitlyn & Kendrick were both a little sad but Calvin explained to them that that's how God intended for wild animals to live and that they would be fine. Kaitlyn thought for a little bit and then said. "Well I sure am glad that God didn't make me a wild animal b/c I wouldn"t like to be out here in the dark by myself all night"!!
The bunnies right before we let them go.

Kendrick was a good catcher, we couldn't keep them in their box after about the first week!
